RE: directmode

"This allows players with chat text drawing problems to use the slower direct-to-screen text rendering mode. 0 to disable, 1 to enable."

I'm fairly certain it's referring to the directX mode used to render the text, not 'direct-to-screen'. Not sure. Doesn't really matter anyway.
